New Project?

Hmmm...  Hope you all are enjoying your evening!

My inspiration for the bright strip quilt

This is what inspired me. The fabrics are a FQ bundle from Evelyn Sloppy's sale at Momma Made It a couple few years ago. It is called Splish Splash from My Sister and Me by moda. The border print is brand new - from the Days of Yore line from RJR Fabrics. I picked it up at Sisters this afternoon.

Go BOLD... Or go home!

Well, it's **bright**! What do you all think?

Off to find a great border print...

I've got the center of my bright quilt top together and am going to head out to find a good border fabric for it.

Boohoo.....hoo. whine or wine...

OK you know I love my kids.  Well if I could turn this picture you would see my new sewing room with a bed and dirty clothes all over the floor.  That's where the boo hoo comes in.  The children I gave birth to I love, I even enjoy it when they come home for a visit, but...my new room.  I did manage to get a few bow ties done.  My new mantra is "this too shall pass" and I will probably miss it when it does...in about 6 months. Tomorrow I am shoving the bed to the garage and will be sewing in here.  I will even post a picture so you will know I can shove stuff around.  Happy Sunday night.  (wasn't that a great lesson in the Watchtower today)  Hoping to apply all I learned, or even a little.
Did you see? I finally got pictures posted! They are albums, so you need to click on them to see them.

Best Laid Plans...

Remember how joyously I posted about having a bit of time to sew? Well, that was short-lived - at least for the sewing projects I had in mind. I was summoned to the lower regions of our lovely abode to watch some television with the fam. I was told the Queen of England was starring in a video short with Bond, James Bond... so we watched skimmed and stopped at seemingly interesting parts to see the Queen {which should be read as some unknown stunt double who could have been ANYONE since there was never a shot closer than 500 feet!} drop from a British "heli" to the Olympic opening ceremonies. While the boob tube didn't hold much of my attention, my funky black/white and green quilt did! The binding is done! Wahooooo! That's one of my least favorite parts. So, here is the BEFORE shot (from the quilting retreat):
And HERE {insert a loud, boisterous crowd chiming in together to shout: TA-DAAAAAAA!} is the finished product, a full shot and a close up shot that shows the quilting a bit better:

Even though I was pulled away from my machine, kicking and screaming... I did accomplish SOMETHING! I {heart} the zipper and safety pin fabrics. Very fun...

Bowtie Update

Since the garage sale is over and the leftover junk has been donated, I got the kitchen cleaned up and skipped up to my sewing room. Working on bowties and my bright strip quilt from my design wall. It's nice to have a little time to sew...

Marges Design Wall

So this is my design wall at the moment. Some day I will finish that bargello quilt as you go. But my favorite thing is percolating right next to it...so many ideas! (thanks Lois!)

Still trying to post photos

Good morning Marge! Happy to see your name on the list.  Would love to see a post of your design wall or current project. (I know there are some). Deanna

How do I upload pictures?

My Design Wall

I'm working on this bright strip quilt as I have time.

Bowtie Bonanza

Here are a few of MY 3 inch Bowtie blocks. Aren't they darling?

And just in case you want to join us, check out the cutting directions. Can you say scrap bag annihilation??? Gotta love that!

Ugly? It's a winner to me!

Gloria's ugly chicken was the winner for me. Ugly smugly!?! Here it is hanging at the quilt shop.  Gloria always enters with bee-uu-tii-ful quilts.  Deann
sorry it's so small

Design wall Wednesday on Thursday

I often see these posts on other walls....so here is mine. If we have something new/fun on our wall, why not share it on Wednesdays? ????  I started the star a year ago. The bow ties this week.  Happy stitching! Deanna

A recent {quilty} sewing project

Excuse my over active posting tonight. I'm {working out the bugs} figuring out how to use every single electronic gadget I own on Blogger! You are my literary-quilting victims while I get my brain sorted out. The attached pic [Lets's hope it's attached!!] is the receiving blanket and dozen burp cloths I made for Erin and Jarred's baby-to-be.

Our Youngest Member

So. remember when I was the youngest in the group? (Am I imagining that? Maybe I never REALLY was the youngest... but it was close!) Where have the years gone? Because... I am definitely not the spring chicken I used to be. "Bock, bock-bock, bock..."

While she isn't jumping at the chance to sew and she may be entirely less interested today than she was at the time, Savannah has had her moments of being sew-crazed. Wasn't she cute here at Tam's house for a sewing day?

I can predict EXACTLY when she'll be reignited and overwhelmed with desire to sew... just as soon as we make plans for a weekend retreat - and she'll think she should go too. Yeah, right. Not yet, sweetheart! Those are still just for Mommy.

Secret sister alert!

So nearly all of the secret sister participants have their new sister assignments - or will soon. I am so excited cooking up plans for my secret sister. (That was VERY figurative language... There is NO cooking going on here. Haven't even done dinner yet!) We will meet at Gloria's on August 4 at 2:00, so be sure to get that on your calendar ASAP! Here are a few pics I took at our LAST secret sister gift day:

Janette opening her surprise

Jeannie - showing her latest work

Deanna's fun bag of quilty fun

Cindie getting her gift

Rose's amazing chicken block
Gloria's grumpy cat quilt

Gloria's "ugly chicken" quilt - Now, now... don't get all offended! This really IS for an ugly fabric contest! Really!! I'm not making that up. That tail feather fabric was deemed "OFFICIALLY UGLY" by the local quilt shop. It's not so bad as a chicken butt!
Who must be the official productive quilter of the day? Gloria had these THREE quilts to show that were new to us all. Sheesh! That's a lot of quilting! Good for her.

Bring your latest work, your surprise for your secret sister, and your smiles to Gloria's on August 4th!

Deanna's new room!

OK Candace you are SO funny!  I love your commentary on quilts.  Can;t wipe the smile from my face.  This Blog is really going to be wonderful.  Will post a picture of my new and improved sewing room soon.  Thanks for all your hard work!!! Deanna

Want to be one of our authors?

So, ladies. If you feel so inclined and you'd like to take this charging bull by the horns, that is: you'd like to write some of your OWN posts on our fabulous blog (instead of just leaving comments about other posts), make sure to let me know. I'd be THRILLED to get you started!

Let's get this started!

Well, ladies. This is a new way for us to chat quilts. One frustration several of us had about the wiki was that is was really hard impossible to know just where to talk - and talking is one of the things we do best! There had to be a better way! So, we'll get this rolling with pics of our fantabulous quilt projects, our fun stories, and maybe a recipe or two. It's a place to get together when we can't get together. This is for all of us - so share, brag, ask, rant, rave... you get the idea!

Here are a few pics I have stored away from our Seabeck retreat a couple of years back:
Patty''s Jewel Box quilt - so bright and gorgeous!

Deanna's mystery - all fantastically quilted now.

Gloria's circle quilt

Jane's nearly yellow - but couldn't really be yellow - background on this was the perfect fit.

I'll need some help remember whose pretty quilt this was...

...and this one?

Deanna's precious baby pinwheel quilt top.

Cindie's fun alphabet sampler - which I believe she bought along the way as we shop-hopped our way there

Gloria - hard at work on a manly quilt

This one is 99.9% done... just a bit of binding to go. It grew from this point, so that'll be a fun post in the near future!

This one is done, Done, DONE!! Wahoooo! You and I are ALL glad that labor of love is over! How many years did that one take??? (Do NOT answer that!!)

This one went to my neice, Miya, in California. I hope she loved it. I was so glad to finally get a quilt done for her since all of the rest of that part of the family had been given one.

I sheepishly must admit this mystery quilt is STILL not quilted yet. One day, one day...

Deanna did this adorable little placemat quilt - for the quilt guild picnic, if I am not mistaken. Cute!
